About OpenIM

OpenIM was started by a small group of friends. We met almost ten years ago and we have one thing in common: we're fanatics about free software.

How it started

It began with an XMPP server for ourselves and our friends. More and more people joined and it grew much bigger than we ever planned.

Along the way we noticed something. Organisations all over the world use chat services from big corporations that give them little service and even less privacy.

What we do now

So we decided to focus on small businesses and larger organisations. We offer a reliable chat server that respects your privacy, with voice and video calls. Without all the extra nonsense the big players add.

We host in the European Union and follow European privacy and security rules, like the GDPR. Does your chat data need to stay inside your company? Then we come by and set it up in your own network.

And when you need help, you talk to the people who run the server.
